The GoDaddy scam, and how they lure you with a cheap .com domain registration?

GoDaddy is one of the most used domain names’ registrar on the web, although they provide other services, such as WebHosting, Email boxes, VPS and Dedicated servers, it is still approached by their Domain Names’ promotions, which are just fine and nothing to complain about so far!

The catch though, is when the renewal time is due, and you start your morning by being hit by their invoice telling you you’ve been charged twice the renewal fee plus extras, and there I started checking out all my previous purchases, and went into a comparison with the De Facto registrar that I usually use “NameCheap” or sometimes “NameSilo” and how they carry on the renewals of the domains that were registered using a Promotional Coupon Code, and I realized right away that I’ve got scammed, rather had been scammed over and over without knowing it, and here’s a brief Why I call it a Scam.

A promotion is meant to bring new potential users, or convince existing ones to buy more, all that is given under the context of a discount, which is in fact the same money they spend on advertisement and marketing, so it’s a win-win deal for both of them –the marketer and the client.

However, what happened in my case with GoDaddy was being charged the first time a mere $3 per domain, which was cool or was too good to be true, but when they renewed it Automatically, I got charged $18.2

That much of money per domain could have got me 2.5 Domains on NameSilo, and multiplying that by 4, means that I have paid for 5 extra domain or 5 extra years for a domain, when I was deceived that I got into GoDaddy for a good deal, and I shall be ok with being charged regular price afterwards, since I don’t need any other service from me, and I prefer to get my bare-metal virtual private servers elsewhere.

All I could say, thanks GoDaddy for helping me to run away and never look back, and I’m happy I’ve made the move. I meat to post this for a few years now, but it was lost in the dozen article I have hanging in the draft mode, and during a general clean up I saw this and decided to publish it out of the anger I felt just reading a title I wrote like 3 years ago or so.

If I’m to rate them from 1 to 10 for how strong I’d recommend them to others, 10 being the strongest, I will surely rate them -200, so go figure.
